How this estimate works

Each adult and child counts as one serving. Add the selected 0%, 10% or 20% extra and round up. Regular capacities are 10: 6-inch round cake; 20: 8-inch round cake; 30: 10-inch round cake; 45: 12-inch round cake; 60: Two 10-inch round cakes; 80: Two 12-inch round cakes. Small slices increase each capacity by 25%, rounded down. One cupcake equals one serving. Metric sizes convert inches × 2.54.

Practical planning tips

Confirm the cake's height and cutting plan with your baker. Use the recommendation as a starting point, especially for unusually tall cakes or different shapes.

Common questions

Do children need smaller slices?

This tool counts adults and children equally. Small party slices apply to the whole cake, not only to children.

Why do cake serving estimates vary?

Height, shape and cutting method change the portions a cake provides.

Can I use cupcakes instead?

Yes. The cupcake equivalent is one cupcake per required serving.
